MARITIME & TECHNOLOGY-DRIVEN BUSINESS MODELS

A maritime innovation is an innovation that changes our lives and the health of the seas for the better in a sustainable way. It can create a whole new market, fundamentally change an existing market to create a whole new ecosystem, or solve a massive social or environmental problem.

We have been supporting interdisciplinary project teams in Schleswig-Holstein since 2021 – all with the aim of further developing the maritime future. In addition, there are many other forward-looking ideas that arose from discussions at events and during our road trips with entrepreneurs and scientists across the state and nationwide. Many of these projects can be found in the subject areas under further development.

Classification of technology transfer

In the area of support, the TMT docks onto the already existing structures of the StartUpSH network and supplements the services of the established start-up and innovation centers. The TMT concentrates on the maritime topics, ideally from projects, spin-offs or start-up teams with a development in technology maturity level 5 (TRL 5 – proof of concept provided). All teams remain firmly anchored in the start-up centers, institutes and/or companies and receive very important access to test areas and contact to pilot customers and the maritime network through TMT. The TMT thus serves as a contact point for spin-offs from the research centers. To this end, we work closely with the technology transfer officers at universities and research institutes.

Technology Transfer Project | Fish-X

The EU Horizon 2020 project Fish-X is funded as part of the Form2Fork strategy for the EU Green Deal. The aim of the project is the creation and implementation of digital tools for European fisheries. The Gaia-X platform will be used to create the Fish-X data platform, which will enable fishermen to use data to improve fishing methods, increase yields, protect vulnerable fish stocks and streamline MCS processes.

Technology Transfer Project | Blue Carbon to Value ZosTerra

In the blue carbon-to-value project ZosTerra, existing technology applications from different application areas for an optimized and scaled carbon sequestration by seagrass are to be made possible and new cradle-to-cradle products are to be developed from seagrass. This requires the development of a special underwater vehicle and mobile breeding stations as well as the (further) development of bio-based products.

Spin Off Support | Geomar AuV Team

The Geomar AuV (Autonomous Underwater Vehicles) team stands for top international technology for equipping underwater vehicles. Stable running systems are to be brought to market maturity for external services. Together with the GEOMAR AUV team, we are currently looking for ways to make the knowledge and developments gained in research usable for business and industry as part of technology transfer. To do this, we support Marcel’s team in analyzing the market and the requirements and wishes of potential customers, comparing them with the team’s research results and pouring them into sustainable, viable business models. An important part of this is training the entrepreneurial flair of the individual scientists in order to advance application-oriented research.

Startup Support | Molabo, BalticMaterials, Smartmark, CargoKite, Marine Digital

TMT supports various start-ups that are currently located in accelerators and incubators across Germany with access to the maritime network, infrastructure near the coast and access to scientific support at universities and research institutes. We enable contact to potential maritime pilot customers from the shipping industry. We work closely with the existing structures in Schleswig-Holstein (e.g. StartUp Office FH, gateway49, Starterkitchen and the start-up centers) in order to offer the start-up teams optimal all-round support.
